B2 to WordPress Conversion…

I recently had to ugrade an old B2 blog to WordPress. A couple of years ago this would have been an easy task as B2 was just coming to an end and WordPress becoming more popular. Unfortunately, that was in 2005 and wordpress have since removed this feature from their code. I feel I left that blog out there for a bit too long.

I’m suprised that being so old it hadn’t been hacked to death by now, maybe the changes I made to the admin system prevented that or maybe it was the fact that people found the content so interesting, they did not want to break it. :)

Anyway, it took me a while to find this site as I doubt there are many B2 blogs still out there, but if you want to upgrade to the latest WordPress database format then simply follow the instructions on this website.

It took me about an hour to find the script, five minutes to run it and now the new website is up and running with all the old comments and posts.

So a big thanks to Aral Balkan for spending the time creating this script for us B2 oldies. :)

Hackers, updates and leatherworking…

Well the eagle eye ones of you out there may have noticed that I’ve changed my theme yet again. This is not a permanent thing but I received an email from my hosting company ( DreamHost ) yesterday saying that my version of blogging software is out of date, and posed a serious security risk.

Not wanting to allow some immature wannabies to trash my blog and potentially infect all of my four readers, I decided to update to the latest build.

On a plus note, the admin interface does look a lot better than before and running the latest version means I’ll be able to add all sorts of funky things to the site soon.

Anyway, please bare with me while I sort out the theme. Think I’ll go for something bright this time :)

On another note, a  new web project was launched the other week, called WiFi In. The project aims to product Google maps of WiFi hotspots in major towns and cities across the UK. It’s a community based project, which means that anyone can add the wifi hotspots or update information.

I think it’s a cool idea. Helpful if you want to pop for a coffee or lunch but still need access to your emails or the latest nude celebrity scandal news feed.

I’ve setup the Weston super Mare WiFi map, so go have a quick ganders, if you know any WiFi spots in sunny old Weston super Mare, paid for or free, add them to the map. Feel free to add information about the location too. Hopefully the whole project will turn into a really useful tool.

Well I best get off to work and earn some money so I can keep paying to spend my nights killing dragons and making lovely leather bracers… ;)
